Module 1: unit 3

Some of the Calgary Organizations that support a healthy living and lifestyle include the Alex Community Health Centre, Cochrane Canada Family and Community Support Services, the Calgary Foundation, Volunteer Calgary, Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Calgary, and. Several of these non-governmental organizations (NGO’s) can come forward together and have a great impact on the health of the school children of Calgary.   They could form a network that promotes health and well-being of school children, bring about growth and development, and encourage learning through school-based programs. Each of these organizations could concentrate on individual issues that could be involving the school children.   The school authorities should organize periodic meetings to ensure that the programs initiated are going on the right track, problems are solved appropriately through discussion, and future plans are initiated. Many of these organizations are planning a comprehensive health program for the school children that would function in coordination with education and mental development.   This would ensure complete mental, physical and social development of the child at the school (like a holistic approach). YMCA Calgary is providing healthcare to school children during school hours and also after school, in partnership with the school management.   Besides, school children can utilize their play settings in various parts of the Calgary, and can improve their language skills for those whose first language is not English.   The other activities that are provided include letter writing, team building, field initiative, etc.   These activities and services would ensure comprehensive exposure of the child to a positive environment.   The YMCA has applied a more holistic form of approach, which seems to be very effective. Such programs have ensured that rapid progress is made in the status of the child following institution of health programs.   Many initiatives have been made by the voluntary organization in coordination with the school authorities and the Government.   Several indicators (variables used to monitor the health status) have been defined and studied often in school children that would suggest their health status.   Through these variables, the heath status of school children can be improved. Efforts are on to include sexual education and information of HIV/AIDS to school children.   In this way, the transmission of HIV/AIDS has reduced to some extent in schools. The voluntary organizations also made an initiative at reducing drug abuse in schools through education.   This has led to a significant drop in drug consumption in schools. The Big Data

In my opinion, there will be a huge business transition in organizations and the way business functions with the more and more generation of data every day. There has been massive increase in the way data is being used and is getting difficult to manage data. It is very important to get proper insights as it controls the influence of big data analytics to inform key strategic decisions. The big data provides competitive advantage to the businesses in terms of decision taking process. Big data analytics helps in taking important decisions as they make it more agile and responsive. With increasing digitization in the world, businesses now have too much data generated every day. With this increasing data it is very difficult to manage this data and get proper insights from this data. Simply bigger the data, harder the analytical process becomes. As big data doesn't really mean only the collection of data or just having the information, it also includes all the processes and tools that help in the analysis of this big data and the results derived from it. The biggest advantage if big data is that it can be applied to time fraud detection, complex competitive analysis, call center optimization, consumer sentiment analysis, intelligent traffic management, and to manage smart power grids. Big data is characterized by three primary factors:Volume (quantity over quality);Velocity (too much generation of data every day);Variety (different types of data).Following are the four types of Big Data BI that affects a business:Prescriptive Analytics refers to the rules and recommendations for the following steps to be taken.Predictive Analytics help in analyzing the data and help in knowing what might happen and derive what steps can be taken.Diagnostic Analytics is usually to analyze the past data and what happened, why it happened. This is to understand how the analysis will help in making the dashboard easier to understand.Descriptive Analytics will in knowing what is happening now based on incoming data. It uses the real time data and dashboar d in order to carry out analysis. With the big data, along with a lot of benefits, the decision-making process faces a lot of challenges. According to me below are the pros and cons of using big data in the decision-making process. Advantages of Big Data in Decision-MakingIt helps in gaining the market advantageIt helps in building trust with clientsAs the speed of collection is often too fast, the decisions can be taken at a faster paceDisadvantages of Big Data in Decision-Making  There is a higher chance of analyzing and taking decision for the inaccurate data.Time and money will be wasted if the decisions are taken for the inaccurate data.Decision making with Big Data requires a lot of talented people to work it in our favor. Mistake in one step would lead to iterating of entire   process making it time consuming.  In addition to that, there are always cybersecurity risk which can manipulate the decisions when it comes to data.Taking example of the Amazon, it has been rightly using big data in all its benefits and has become the biggest ecommerce giant in the world. These are the perks of using big data analytics in the right way. Amazon is the perfect example to understand how big data can work in you r favor and help you achieve the market that you are targeting. Therefore, taking the example of Amazon, it entered the Chinese market without any analysis of the data or without any knowledge of the market. It failed miserably in the market and had to undergo losses. Few years later, it decided to enter Indian market and be its biggest ecommerce retailer. Now, before entering the Indian market, Amazon decided to analyze its mistakes that it made while entering the Chinese market. Amazon used the diagnostic analysis of the big data to understand its failure in the Chinese market and was able to create the dashboard describing the factors that led to failure. Those factors were:did not get enough support from the customerscould not stand the local competition of Alibaba (local Chinese e-commerce)did not get enough support from the Chinese governmentAmazon did not only analyze the Chinese market, but it also undergoes descriptive, prescriptive and predictive analysis for the Indian ma rket before entering it and created a well-versed dashboard. Thus, these three factors play an important for any company entering a foreign country. Here that is what Amazon did and I also as a decision maker would have done the same thing as analyzing these three things which made Amazon fail in Chinese market, can actually help it succeed in Indian market. Moreover, in addition to that, there are so many startups in India which needs a boost and needs investment unlike the case in China. So, Indian market has availability of low-cost technical efficiency which helps in avoiding huge costs of outsourcing. Not only that, Indian consumers are always fascinated by these new changes and are always welcoming to more convenient options if available. So, choosing startups rather than outsourcing and making convenience of customer first priority would help in Amazon succeeding the Indian market. Thus, from the example of Amazon, we can conclude that Big Data analytics help in making the process of decision-making smoother and more responsive. It provides a competitive edge by making the analyzing much easier and that too in a minimal time making the process very optimum.

Classical Education Essay

Some people hold the view that the classics are classics because they have stood the test of time. Therefore, they are to be treasured by people of all generations, ours being no exception. Others believe that the classics represent the wisdom of the past. As we are advancing towards the future, it is our responsibility to venture into the unknown and generate new understanding of man and nature. What is your view on this issue? Write an essay in 300 – 500 words in response to this question and give reasons to support your position. Classical education is ‘ communicates to the mind †¦ a high sense of honor, a disdain of death in a good cause, and a passionate devotion to the welfare of one’s country’ , which proposed by Oxford classicist Edward Copleston. Classics studies indeed have stood the test of time and represent the wisdom of the past which treasured by all generations. Therefore, it is our responsibility to venture into the unknown and generate new understanding of man and nature. Traditionally, the study of classics was the principal study of the humanities. It is connected to the study of languages, history, art, literature, philosophy, archaeology and other culture of the ancient Mediterranean word, especially Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. For example, every European language today such as the Romance languages and Modern Greek was evolved and influenced by the classical language of the Ancient Mediterranean. Nevertheless, classical study now expanded to Northern Africa and Middle East. It has become our references in many different arenas and immensely contributed to our culture today which proves that classic studies have the ability to transform self’s understanding. According to Charles Augustin Sainte-Beure’s idea and belief, a true classic is an author who has enriched the human mind and revealed some eternal passion through his thought, observation, or invention. Therefore, it could be opposed by anyone since each and everyone have different thoughts and ideas influenced by their present lifestyles, culture or even discovery.

Role Play Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Role Play - Essay Example In this paper, we would be outlining in detail a role play activity and discuss on the anticipated learning outcomes and procedure, including the sub-skills of speaking that will be focused. The consideration of new learning tasks that become possible with new technologies should be part of the educator's strategic learning plan (Freeman & Capper, 1999, pp.95-116). We thus decided to design and implement a role play as an interactive learning activity within one module of a teaching course for academic staff at a University. The role play was designed to trial the existing face-to-face workshop that might offer more flexibility of access for participants and provide an opportunity to explore various approaches to a contentious topic within the course. Sixteen participants were divided into two groups of eight participants each and given the same directions, information and role statements. The role plays were set up within a classroom, during which participants were expected to contribute to discussion from the viewpoint of the role they were playing. At the end of the role play participants were given access to the postings from both role plays and the contributions we re discussed. Marks were not allocated to the role play, although a specified level of participation was a requirement for course completion. Evaluation Methodology The evaluation methodology was grounded in the interpretive paradigm, the central endeavor of this paradigm being "to understand the subjective world of human experience" (Cohen & Manion, 1994, p. 205). Case study method was utilized, in which the researcher 'observes' aspects of individual or group activity in order to "probe deeply and to analyze intensively the multifarious phenomena with a view to establishing generalizations about the wider population to which the unit belongs" (Cohen & Manion, 1994, p. 106-107). In this case study the role play moderator is a "participant-observer" (Cohen & Manion, 1994, p. 107), participating to some extent in the activity being evaluated. To determine the effectiveness of the role play activity the moderator analyzed the descriptive accounts and the face-to-face discussion responses. Participant responses to the activity were also evaluated by questionnaire using closed questions on a four point scale from strongly agree to strongly disagree, with provision for open comments. The questionnaire and discussion covered the effectiveness and purpose of the role play; feelings about taking part; anonymity; and role engagement. Eleven of the fourteen participants completed the questionnaire and participated in the discussion. (Initially sixteen participants were allocated roles but two left the course) The Role Play Description and Purpose The role play was designed to provide participants with a realistic forum to discuss the issue - the letters column of a supposed local newspaper, the Daily View. The role play took place at a mythical university in which criterion referenced assessment had been used within a subject. All students had achieved 100%. Participants discussed the merits of norm referenced and criterion referen

Unit 4 SEMINAR - Research Paper Example at these values are adhered to, I will inform my clients on the limits of confidentiality that would involve linking them to the expected moral guidelines (Corey, Corey & Callanan, 2010). This agreement will be of use in determining a professional relationship with the clients as other parties will respond ethically when required. Privileged communication helps put limits to the information that a therapist may disclose (Corey, Corey & Callanan, 2010). I will ensure this ethical aspect is adhered to by strictly directing that no personal information is disclosed whether in legal proceedings or otherwise. Only after the client authorizes is when I will authorize specific information disseminated (Corey, Corey & Callanan, 2010). More so, at the beginning of the contract, I will clearly explain the boundaries to cross in terms of communication and the effects of breaking the guidelines set. Informing the clients in time helps minimize unprofessionalism in the relationship (Corey, Corey & Callanan,

Lit 5 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Lit 5 - Essay Example (Griswold). Create a collection of nursery rhymes from other lands to illustrate the universal nature of children and the unique characteristics of the people living in these countries. List at least fifteen different rhymes that you found and what country they are from. Every country has its unique culture and language. Nursery rhymes of a country reflect its culture, myth, tradition etc. A famous example is the popular nursery rhyme ‘London Bridge is falling down’. This was written based on the well known landmarks in London. The main theme of this rhyme is a bridge. People of this country attach much importance to this bridge. (London Bridge is falling down Nursery Rhymes Lyrics, History and Origin). The above mentioned nursery rhymes are from four different countries. Many of these rhymes reflect dialects of the country of origin. Almost all these rhymes have a close relationship with the culture of the land. For example â€Å"Rain Rain Go Away† is a popular rhyme in India. The natural forces like rain are worshipped as God in India. So the children and adults in India offer a reverential and significant place for rain in their mind. Select a common animal or object that often appears in books for children. Expansionary Economic Policy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Expansionary Economic Policy - Essay Example Fiscal policy stands for the power possessed by the federal government to tax as well as spend with an intension of achieving the goals of the economy. On the other hand, monetary policy deals with the important programs that make an attempt of increasing or decreasing the nation’s level of business activities through the legal regulation of money supply and credit. Despite the difference between the two, they both have a common goal of either decreasing or increasing the level of the business activities. A better understanding of the above two terms and what they stand for can be handled in the following subheadings. The Theory of Monetary and Fiscal Policy The theory of monetary and fiscal policy reveal that monetary policy stands for the whole process through which the central bank, government, and even the monetary authority are able to take control over three major aspects. The three major aspects include the money supply, interest rates that are meant to achieve the set objectives of stabilizing the economy, and availability of money in the economy. The monetary theory reflects on how one can be able to design the optimum monetary policy without interfering with the lives of other people. The theory goes further to give a suggestion that the monetary policy tends to rest on the relationship that exists between the price at which money can be borrowed, interest rates in an economy, and the total amount of supply of money (Persson 45-46). In addition, the money and fiscal policy make use of several tools in controlling the country’s economic growth, the exchange rates, as well as inflation. It must be noted that the exchange rates can only happen when there is another currency from a foreign country. However, if the currency tends to be under a monopoly of issuance, then there exist high chances that the regulation system might issue the currency through the existing banks, which might end up being tied to a central bank that can easily be con trolled by the authority in altering the money supply and influencing the interest rates. The theory gives an overview of the roles played by the policymakers in regulating the inflation in an economy. Policymakers play a big role in making time-to-time credible announcements that are aimed at informing the citizens on the changes in the interest rates and the amount of money available for borrowing. The theory reflects on the two ways in which the decision made by the policymakers can affect the inflation. In the first case, if firms and other consumers are made to believe that policymakers are working towards lowering the inflation, then there is a likelihood of a true anticipation of lower prices in the near future compared to the current ones. On the other hand, if employees tend to expect high prices in the near future, then there are high chances for employees to draw contracts that entail high wages. This is because employees aim at covering up the high prices in the economy through earning a relatively higher income. However, in an ideal economy, there is always a likelihood of introduction of a wage-setting behavior that is meant to solve such cases that have been mentioned above. The wage setting behavior attempts to balance the relationship between the employee and employer. In case the employees are receiving lower wages that cannot meet the demands of the high prices, then the

Heart foundation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Heart foundation - Essay Example Understanding and analyzing the aspects of this provides the ability to help the corporation to continue to grow while allowing the right focus to continue to be a part of the goals and objectives of the Heart Foundation. The industry and market for the Heart Foundation in Australia is one of the competitive strengths of the industry. Currently, the Heart Foundation is one of the only recognized national associations that works with different individuals for information and positive promotion of preventing heart disease. They have incorporated their strategy not only as an independent venture, but also by associating with farmers and manufacturers who are primarily responsible for heart health. More importantly, there is a strong demand to find answers to better health, specifically with a focus on heart failure. Chronic heart failure is responsible for 25-50% of illness and death in Australia, making it one of the leading causes of disease. However, there are few answers provided by industries to change this (McLennan et al, 443, 2005). For the Heart Foundation, this provides them with a strong demand in the health industry while allowing them to stay ahead because there are no other competitive fac tors in the industry. The company analysis is able to combine with the overall goals and objectives of helping to promote and prevent heart failure among adults. The company’s mission is to assist with information and activities which can promote a healthier Australia. The objectives are to focus on different age groups that are at risk for heart failure and to promote exercise, active living, dietary styles and preventative measures for heart disease. This is followed with information that is used to find ways to reduce and stop the problems with heart failure. The company has created a blue print to assist with health, all which is based on community wide benefits for health, promoting new levels of physical activity and

Phy107 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Phy107 - Essay Example A blackbody emits infrared wavelengths at room temperature. As the temperature increases, the blackbody starts to emit visible light, starting from red to orange, yellow to white and blue with increasing temperature. When the blackbody turns white, it is already emitting ultraviolet radiation. Stefan's Law states that the total energy radiated by a blackbody per unit surface area is directly proportional to the fourth power of its absolute temperature. This means that as temperature increases, the wavelength of the radiation emitted decreases. Doppler Effect, or Doppler shift, happens when an observer is moving relative to the wave source - there is a change in the frequency of the wave perceived by the observer. This means that when we are approaching the wave source, we perceive a higher frequency. When we are receding from the wave source, we perceive a lower frequency. Spectroscopy refers to the dispersion of an object's light into its component colors. By analyzing the light emitted by an object, the physical properties of that object such as temperature, mass, luminosity and composition can be inferred by an astronomer. Continuous spectrum, as opposed to discrete spectrum, refers to energy at all wavelengths. It is emitted by warm objects. The spectrum of light with missing frequencies is called absorption spectrum. ... Continuous spectrum, as opposed to discrete spectrum, refers to energy at all wavelengths. It is emitted by warm objects. The spectrum of light with missing frequencies is called absorption spectrum. The missing frequencies correspond to wavelengths of light that were absorbed. 3. Explain how a beam of light passing through a diffuse cloud may give rise to both absorption and emission spectra. Suppose that a beam of light passes through a gas, some of the frequencies of the light will be absorbed by the gas. The rest of the frequencies will be able to pass through. When these surviving frequencies are dispersed through a prism, they will show a spectrum with gaps on it. The visible spectrum will correspond to the emission spectrum while the dark bands will correspond to the absorption spectrum. 4. List three properties of a star that can be determined from observations of its spectrum. a. Total energy that the star radiates b. Luminosity c. Surface temperature CHAPTER 5 1. List three advantages of reflecting telescopes over refractors. a. Refractors tend to be heavier overall than reflecting telescopes because of their longer solid tubes and require a larger housing and a more massive mount. b. Reflectors don't disperse color as most refractors are to one degree or another. c. In a refractor the lens can only be supported along the edge so that the path is clear for light to come through unobstructed. 2. How does Earth's atmosphere affect what is seen through an optical telescope The Earth's atmosphere is constantly moving, and different layers bend the light from a star in different directions, blurring our view from the ground. 3. What are the advantages of a CCD over a photograph The major advantages of CCD-based cameras are

Managerial Final Exam Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Managerial Final Exam - Essay Example If the interest rate is increased from 5% to 7%, and the interest is paid annually, the amount that will be earned after 5 years will be more than the amount that was earned at the rate of 5%. This is because there are more proceeds from the increased interest rate as compared to when the interest rate is reduced. Therefore the amount realized after 5 years will be $14,025.52 and $19,671.51 after 10 years as explained above. 21. For this bond, at 5% interest, the value will be $813.53. this value will keep increasing as the interest rate decreases, this is because, during the calculations, increase in the interest rate tries to minimize the total value that is achieved at the end of the calculation. Therefore, at 4% interest, the value will increase to 4851.927 and $935.731 at 2% interest rate. 22. One would definitely go for an investment that pays 30% after 5 years than go for one that costs 0.5% per month after 5 years. This is because the it is better foe an interest rate to that matures after a long period of time since the cumulated earnings to be paid will be more than if the interest were small and is only paid
